Default differences with factions

I've been thinking about getting factions but don't have enough information. so I would like you, forum goers, to tell me what you think of factions in comparison to the original GW?

Prophecies has a stronger PvE element; character development is slow and steady, skills come through quests, and level 20 monsters don't show up until 3/4s of the way through the missions. Prophecies also has twice as many story-related missions, and missions have "bonuses" for extra experience and winning a Protector title.

Factions has a strong PvP component; it is almost impossible to play through the Factions campaign without doing some PvP. Character development is much faster than in Prophecies -- and in Factions, you buy your skills. Quests pay more experience and money than they do in Prophesies. However, you get to the level 20 monsters about 1/4 of the way through the campaign missions, and there are only 13 missions in total in the storyline. Factions does offer a lot of new PvP ideas, but the repetitive quests through the same areas are very boring.

Factions has one big plus over Prophecies: The Ritualist profession. Love them crazy ritualists.

I own both; I enjoy both. They're different, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

take the good with the bad, and get factions if you havnt already. you must be nuts to play gw and skip chapters cause you miss out on weapon skins, skills, armors, and 2 new professions each time. can't pass that up, not to mention the events in each one, scenery, and new story line to play through.

while you don't have to get every chapter, like the Jeff said himself - "we will think your nuts to not buy every chapter"

Why?

If I would go into details, I had to play PvP in Prophecies (the little thing after entering the academy), but in Factions? Why would you have to do PvP?

Fastest way to get factions excepted very boring repetitive quests.

I think anet needs to work on is the character development part. Making better worlds better content!

They need to do it in detail too as well.

Ah, but the "forced" PvP in Prophecies is a one-time deal, and it really doesn't matter if you play well or not.

In Factions, it is barely possible to play through the campaign with zero PvP -- ASSUMING you can find all the necessary quests that give faction upon their completion. Problem is, many of those quests are long, repetitive (supply runs, anyone?), and hard to find. So many people end up taking the quick route afforded by Aspenwood and Jade Quarry.

Well, okay, hardly anyone plays Jade Quarry...

I actually enjoy some PvP, and find playing Aspenwood a blast from both sides. I'd enjoy playing Jade Quarry more if I actually could play it, but that's another story.

I'm not saying PvP is bad -- I'm just pointing out that the Canthan campaign lends itself to PvP.

Again, why? I have done two times the Befriending the Kuzick quest (meaning, I went to zero from 10k with character, deleted all that faction, and went again to 10k) without ever doing PvP or doing any quest more than once.

We have:

Journey to Cavalon: 250
Charting the Forest: 500
Song and Stone: 1000
Artistic Endeavors: 750
The Beak of Darkness: 750
Wardens On the March: 750
The Ancient Forest: 750
The Experimental Weaponsmith: 750
Discord Wallow Lyre: 750
Melodic Gaki Flute: 750
Rhythm Drinker Drum: 750
Envoy of the Dredge: 750
Temple of the Dredge: 750
Revolt of the Dredge: 750
A New Escort: 750

Securing Echovald Forest: 400
In the Army Now (Kurzick): 400
Kurzick Supply Lines: 400
Duel of the Houses: 400
Scouting Ferndale: 400

That's 12.750 faction. More than enough for the 10.000 faction you need - in fact, if you don't do any of the repetitive quests even once, you would still have more than 10.000. And all of the above non repetitive quests are found within an outpost, with the exception of the Moleneaux quests, which are given to you right in front of the Kuzick entry to the Jade Quarry.

This, together with the fact that faction is account based, not character based (so you could do a few of the quests above with more than one character and reach the 10.000k with both), makes me unable to understand why would it be "barely" possible to finish Factions without PvP. I thought that was actually easy, and I'm far from being a very good GW player.

Heh, don't worry about that. I like Factions more than Prophecies, and all I do is to play PvE, so if that's what you want, go for it.

Prophecies is called Chapter 1, and Factions is Chapter 2. There will be a Chapter 3 (by the end of this year), and more chapters after 6 months intervals.

I also play City of heroes/villains. I play that more often actually. i play this cause its got no monthly whatsits and its more of a "traditional" MMO, swords magic, and lewt. I really don't know any of the lingo for GW besides WTS and WTB lol.

so here are some more questions. what the heck is a "minipet" and why are so many ppl in a pants wetting excitement over them?

what is the assasin class like?

any other lingo I should know about?

thanks in advance

A mini pet is a miniaturized version of a character in the game (almost always an enemy) that you can keep with you. In missions and explorable areas, you can make it move by your side. It doesn't attack, it's not attacked (or anything else) by the enemies, so it makes absolutely no difference, game-wise. But they look rather cute

There are 3 ways to get one:

1) When it's your character birthday, he/she will get a present - opening it will reveal a randomly chosen mini pet (there are a few possibilities).

2) By buying the Faction's Collection Edition, you'll get the Kuunavang Mini Pet - a small dragon that sometimes roars. You cannot get Kuunavang through method 1.

3) Buying one That's what the craze is all about.

Look at GW Wiki to learn more. Scroll there to find some pictures, too.

It suffers. It's a very hard class to be played, and there were so many bad Assassin players right after release that now a lot of people think an Assassin is a stupid character, and so don't want one in their groups.

It's a high damage Profession, but a very fragile one - considering you have to be in melee range, and that many of the enemies in Factions explode when they die, it's hard to play as an Assassin. They are fun, though, IF you have the patience to learn how to play with one.

Nah, if you have Prophecies, that's mostly it.

That is almost exaclty the description of the stalker class in CoV, My favorite class to be specific.

I was pretty decided, and this makes it even better.

to the walmart!

Jeff said himself, it requires alittle work to chance sides of the factions (for a whole 10k) but chosing the side you will go with first, is EASY. it DOESNT require pvping. trust me.

Wal-Mart close? Never heard of such a thing :P Anyways my two cents even though they don't seem to be needed....

I bought factions and was disappointed in the pve content of it. I still play the first chapter almost exclusively. However, I am not mad that I bought Factions due to my increasing interest in the PvP area. I can unlock all the extra skills, weapons upgrades, and experiment with Rt and A classes in pvp. Also while I'm disappointed in the pve element, it is because I expected more from it. Not that what is offered in that area is bad. Just saying I wasn't expecting 12 less missions with no bonuses, and quests that seem to have little to do with the story. The game is still good especially in the pvp area and I think I'll get into it later.

Anyways, good luck with the Wal-Mart thing, though I never heard of a Wal-Mart not being open 24/7
